Engraved monogram, maker's mark and Elder's Head "1er Titre" (in very good condition) Dimensions 26,0 cm Medium 805 g Notes François DURAND, goldsmith of the Duc d'Orléans, was a pupil of Odiot and workshop manager of Fauconnier. He participated in the Products of Industry Exhibitions in the early 19th century but also at the Universal Exhibitions in London (Crystal Palace, 1851) and Paris (1855). Durand was the maker of the Trophy Cup for the 1841 Goodwood Races (Louvre Museum, Paris). The trophy was donated by Ferdinand-Philippe, Duke of Orléans and eldest son of King Louis-Philippe, an amateur horse magnate and enlightened patron, to the winner of the Goodwood horse races in 1841. This Renaissance style cup, was commissioned by the prince to the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Jules Klagmann and realized by Durand. It is currently conserved in the Musée du Louvre in Paris
