Sheffield's crown, lion passant, letter date Y (in good condition) Dimensions 24,5 cm Medium 223 g Notes William HUTTON & SONS Established in Birmingham by William Hutton in 1800 it transferred to Sheffield in 1832. After his death the business continuity was assured by his son, William Carr Hutton, until 1864, when the company changed its name to William Hutton & Son. This resulted from a partnership between William and his youngest son Herbert Hutton (b.1843). On William Carr Hutton death in 1865, Herbert Hutton Sr. was joined by his brothers James Edward (b.1839) and Robert (b.1840), the company's name changing William Hutton & Sons. A London showroom opened in 1863. In 1893 the firm acquired Rupert Favell & Co and in the same year became William Hutton & Sons Ltd. In 1902 they acquired Creswick & Co., beginning to use the crossed arrows marks. The last Hutton family director was Herbert Hutton Jr., just before the company collapsed in 1930. The firm was absorbed by James Dixon & Sons in that same year. Hutton & Sons The Victoria & Albert Museum, in London, keeps in its collections over 16 Hutton & Sons marked pieces. There are also some examples in the British Museum collection
