French silver Foliage, acanthus leaves, pilasters and applied monogram decoration Paris 1883-1911, marked Alphonse DEBAIN and "Minerve 1er titre" (very good condition and exceptional quality) Dimensions 20,7 cm Medium 1035 g Notes François-Alphonse DEBAIN, registered 1847 in Paris. His son and successor Alphonse-Édouard DEBAIN uses the same mark and takes Louis-Frédéric FLAMANT as associate, working from 1864 onwards under the name DEBAIN & FLAMANT. Between 1880-1891 the company operates as FLAMANT & FILS. In 1883 Alphonse-Édouard's son, also Alphonse, succeeds the goldsmith Philippe BERTHIER, and will exhibit at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle, being awarded a gold medal. A jury member at the Paris 1900 Exposition Universelle he will, for that reason, exhibit but not compete. He exhibited again at the 1901 Universal Exhibition in Glasgow and at the 1909 French Decorative Art Exhibition in Copenhagen where his products stood out. He retired in 1911.
