A carved sandstone couchant lion on an integral rectangular base; the animal facing forwards, mouth open baring two rows of vicious teeth; long tail held along the centre of the spine; finely carved detail to forepaws, head, face, mane and textured coat; face re-cut. 132 kg, 88cm (34 3/4"). Property of a West London businessman, his collection having been formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no.10704-172634. Condition Report Fair condition, left paw repaired.
