Description
Translation provided by Youdao
11th-13th century AD. An iron pyramidal pike or pilum, with collar and long circular socket. See Nicolle, D., Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era, 1050-1350 AD, volume II, London, 1999, p.92, fig.189A. 249 grams, 31.5cm (12 1/2"). Property of a London gallery; previously from a private British collection; formerly acquired from a European gentleman; acquired in the 1990s and earlier. The narrow spearhead shows similarities with that from Yureva, an area of Russia where abundant weaponry was found in the graves near the Ros river, probably belonging to the military elite of the so-called Black Huts, Turkish mercenaries of Russian medieval rulers of that area. Although under Russian rule, they continued to use typical steppe arms and armour for many years. Condition Report Fine condition.
