2nd millennium BC-6th century BC. A group of eighteen bronze arrowheads with five main deltoid forms: eleven with a sharp barbed blade and prominent midrib extending to a long tang; another with pyramidal head, extending to a long tang; one socketted trilobate head and four foliate heads. Cf. Muscarella, O.W., Bronze and Iron Ancient Near Eastern Artifacts in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York,1988, pp.289ff. for similar; see also Khorasani, M.M., Arms and Armour from Iran. The Bronze Age to the End of the Qajar Period, Tübingen, 2006, nos.467,471,474 for type. 127 grams total, 31-77mm (1 1/4 - 3"). Ex Abelita family collection, 1980-2015. A number of arrowheads of this type have been excavated from the Northern Iranian Plateau, in Luristan and in the South-Caspian region. Many parallels have a burial provenance, but a large hoard of them was found in a non-funerary context. This type of arrowhead has been in use from the 1st millennium BC.
