Mid 3rd century BC. A collared bronze axe with trapezoidal blade and moulded cylindrical sleeve. See Gernez, G., Larmament en métal au Proche et Moyen-Orient: des origines a 1750 av. J.C., Paris, 2007, fig.2.6, lett.H.2.B.b, for the type. 810 grams, 15cm (6"). Property of a London gallery; previously in a private UK collection formed 1980s-1990s. This axe is similar to the standardised set of axes from the ancient area of Susa, characterised by a trapezoidal blade, a cylindrical collet showing a clean moulding at its base and an angular moulding marked at its top, projected over the top of the blade. Usually they are dated to the period of Ur III and to the Akkadian age. Condition Report Fine condition.
