13th-15th century AD. A bronze horse harness mount or steelyard weight, triangular in plan with convex sides and a domed profile, bearing a heraldic shield with chevrons. Cf. The Portable Antiquities Scheme Database, id. SF-54B2CE, for a similar coat of arms, coloured; the heraldic device is possibly associated with the arms of the de Clare family, prominent from 11th to 14th century AD; cf. SUR-C71C15, for a weight with comparable elements. 15 grams, 30mm (1 1/4"). Found whilst searching with a metal detector in Leicestershire, UK, by Robert Ward.
