|笔海内壁及底髹黑漆，外壁髹朱红漆，漆质细洁，色泽亮丽。敞口平底，周身仿照树瘤形状雕琢，呈现自然之美，笔海外壁仿瘤根形雕琢为饰，古朴典雅，不为多见。整器手感沉重，纹理蜿蜒，瘿结累累，错落有致，虽出人工宛若天成，表现了作者的匠心。明清文人追求自然雅趣、山野之乐，因此在文房清玩中出现了模仿自然事物的倾向，瘤根笔海即为受此影响而制作的文房用品，是物久经摩挲，圆润无比，别有意趣。
