An S-shaped brooch with scaphoid terminals formed as head and tail of the beast, decorated body on one sideprising a panel of polychrome enamel ornament and other geometric enamelled cells, mounted on a ctom-made display base. The 'dragonesque' brooch, embodying Celtic tastes, is typically Romano-British, first appearing once the Roman conquest of southern England hadmenced in 43 AD.
