Early 17th-14th century BC. An exceptional terracotta chocolate-on-white ware jug or jar with carinated body, cylindrical neck, integral m-section handle to one side, everted rim and discoid foot, circumferential chocolate-brown or red-brown painted wavy band between plain borders at the shoulder, solid-fill chevrons above, two panels of four horizontal lines flanking the handle, vertical lines between plain bands around the rim. Cf. Amiran, R., Ancient Pottery of the Holy Land, Israel, 1969, p.159, items 153 and 155, for similar. 1.9 kg, 27cm (10 3/4"). Ex deceased gentleman by descent to family London and Geneva, pre 1988; apanied by a positive thermoluminescence analysis report, sample no. N121m27, from Oxford Authentication and this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is apanied by AIAD certificate number no.10997-181602.
