Description

Civil War era handbook “Infantry Tactics”, with 2 maps, signed, 1830 Antique 1830 "Infantry Tactics" Civil War Handbook w/Two, Fold-out Maps. Signed. Infantry Tactics: Exercises & Maneuvers of Light Infantry & Riflemen for the Use of the Militia of The United States Boston 1830 This book on "Infantry Tactics" was published in Boston in 1830 and likely used by officers in the Civil War. This antique book still has its original binding and measures approximately 4.5" x 7.25." It has two, fold out maps and contains 138 pages. Condition: There is wearing on the edges, some foxing on the pages, water spotting on some pages, and one small, taped repair on pg. 23 (see photo # 5). Still has the original binding. This handbook appears to have been used in the field as it shows plenty of authentic wear and use. It was owned by one David Burbank and later was part of the public library located in Albany, Oregon, until it was sold (see detailed photo # 2). There are 7 "David Burbank" listed that fought for the Union Army during the Civil War. Perhaps, this small handbook belonged to one of them. Small, infantry handbooks like this were often carried by officers in the Mexican War, Civil War, & Indian Wars of the 19th century. Please see photos for details and bid accordingly.
