The left hand is resting on tghe knee holding the tail of his robe. His robe is thrown over his right shoulder and exposing his chest and large belly. The face is round and big with red lips showing a big smile. The ears are slightly elongated. The blushing cheeks portrude beside a chubby nose, the eyes are squinting joyfully. The round head is bold. This depiction of a laughing, chubby Buddha is usually referring to Budai (Hotei in Japanese), one of the Seven Lucky Gods. He is also often shown in the presence of children drawn to him by his jolly nature. He appears as a monk, usually carrying a cloth sack with him. The bottom shows a small seal.
