BronzeIndia , 18th to 19th centuryDimensions: Height 39 cm Wide 22 cm Depth 15 cmWeight: 5.752 gramsGanesha is dancing on a throne or podest with expansive foot and rectangular shape, topped by a lotus flower base. He is balancing on his left foot, his four arms expanding around himself in a dynamic motion. He is wearing a short dhoti with ornamental patterns all over and his belly and chest are also decorated with beaded chains and necklaces. Two serpents meet at the front of his belly being used as his belts. In his right hands he is holding his own broken tusk and a goad, his other hands are holding a noose and a sweets ball. His trunk is holding a vessel. His head and trunk are also adorned with numerous jewellery, bracelets, flowers, etc. He has smaller ears and is wearing a three-leveled crown. From the back we see the same detail as from the front. The dancing Ganesha shows us his joyful side and shows a lot of contrasts, he is heavy but graceful, mischievous and serious and seems to embody wisdom but also the playfulness of a young child.
