This concept changed in 1963, where it was launched one of the most iconic families in horology world: the Daytona. The reference 6239 was the model that made Rolex understand that the sporty tool watches were the way to go. The present watch is an early example of reference 6239 featuring a micro-Daytona signature and the correct bezel calibrated to 300 units for those years. During the beginning of the Daytona’s production, Rolex experimented with various dial configurations in order to realize its design for the Cosmograph Daytona. It was a few years later that Rolex definitively printed the “Daytona” designation above the subsidiary register positioned at 6 o’clock. The stainless steel case is finely reserved and so is the oyster riveted bracelet. The main peculiarity is surely the black matte dial with silver recessed sub-dials, which is referred to by enthusiasts as the “reverse panda” dial. Furthermore, this specimen is one of the few examples bearing a very crisp engraving on the back “Fuerza Aérea del Perú” and for this reason also known as FAP. The Fuerza Aerea del Peru designation is engraved around the edge of the case back with a rotary cutter, as can be noted by its depth and smoothness on the inside. Representative of a small number of Daytonas with these characteristics and given its quality, this watch will for sure satisfy the eyes and souls of the most discerning collector of vintage Rolex sports models.Estimate € 50000 - 100000
