Description
Translation provided by Youdao
7th-8th century A.D. A sheet bronze mount, triangular in form with scooped sides and curved upper edge; reserved knotwork motif on a niello field; pierced centrally for attachment. Cf. West, S., A Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Finds From Suffolk, East Anglian Archaeology 84, Ipswich, 1998, fig.15(5), for type. 6.09 grams, 40 mm (1 1/2 in.) Found Cambridgeshire, UK. This format (sub-triangular with reserved knotwork) is associated with strap ends and belt tags but this piece lacks the customary attachment points at the upper edge. It is likely that it is a harness mount. [No Reserve]Condition Report: Fair condition.
