15th-16th century A.D. A bronze finger ring with a thin circular hoop, discoid bezel with central cross pattée and a cross crosslet to each spandrel. Cf. Chadour, A.B., Rings. The heraldic cross of this ring, called the cross crosslet, consists of four Latin crosses arranged at right angles to each other, with the top facing north, south, east and west. In the Middle Ages, it became a symbol for the worldwide evangelisation of the Gospel, and amon interpretation is that it represented the four evangelists.
