A shield-shaped heraldic horse harness stud, the arms quarterly gules and or with mullet in upper left and originally enamelled in red to upper left and lower right; with fixing stud to reverse. See Woodcock and Flower, Dictionary of British Arms, vol.4, pp.326-327. 12.7 grams, 36 mm (1 1/2 in.) Found Norfolk, UK, before 2001. Private collection of Mr M.H., Norfolk, UK. The arms are possibly associated with the de Vere (sometimes Veer) family, dating back to at least the early 13th century and holding the Earldom of Oxford.
