2001 GRAND NATIONAL - A SILVER HORSE RACING PRIZE TROPHY DISH, PRESENTED TO THE WINNING JOCKEY, RICHARD GUEST, by Boodle & Dunthorne, Sheffield 2001, the circular dish engraved with four mounted horses and inscribed 'THE MARTELL GRAND NATIONAL 2001 / WINNING JOCKEY'. 31cm diameter, 31.3 troy ounces Note: The 2001 Grand National is an historic race which took place in horrendous adverse weather conditions with extremely heavy going. Forty horses started the race but only two finished without the jockeys having to remount although four finished in total. The race was won by a distance by 33/1 outsider, Red Marauder ridden by jockey Richard Guest, with the only other unmounted finisher being Smarty. The horse was also trained by Richard Guest at Crook, County Durham and was owned by Norman Mason. The only other occasion when so few horses finished the Grand National was in 1928 when just one horse (Tipperary Tim) finished without remounting but two horses finished in total. The silver winner's trophy dish was presented to Richard Guest. Included in this lot is an autographed photograph taken as Richard Guest on Red Marauder passes the Grand National finishing line. Also included is a 2001 Grand National Race Meeting Programme from Thursday 5th April 2001.
