PER BARCLAY (Oslo, 1955)"The Jaguar's Cage, 1991.Colour photography. It has a label on the back of the Oliva Arauna Gallery (Madrid).Measurements: 177 x 226 cm.Interaction with space is a constant in Per Barclay's work, cubes and cages are the protagonists of pieces in which he delimits space and reflects on the habitable. In these enclosed spaces he usually introduces a liquid element such as water, oil and wine, with which he intervenes in these spaces or even floods them, as can be seen in this photograph. In the artist's own words; "The effect of my works is that you are always on the outside, the work does not allow you to enter. This creates a sense of anxiety and produces a certain violence; this is what I try to express in my work, the idea of extreme violence that exists in contemporary society".Per Barclay is a Norwegian artist who began his artistic education with a degree in art history. During his training he moved to Italy, where he lived until 1994, and his artistic production is characterised by a multidisciplinary approach, in which he uses different techniques such as photography, installation and sculpture. Throughout his artistic career he has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including the Fondazione Merz (Turin, Italy, 2008), the Palacio de Cristal del Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid, 2003), Koldo Mitxelena Kulturunea (San Sebastián, 2002), the Centre de Création Contemporaine (Tours, France, 2001) and the Venice Biennale (1990), among others. His work forms part of national and international collections such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), the Fundación Telefónica (Madrid), the Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain (Nice, France), Es Baluard Museu dArt Modern i Contemporani de Palma and the Bergen Kunstmuseum (Bergen, Norway).
