The canvas tension is slightly slack with minor undulations. The paint layer is in a stable condition overall. In the lower left hand corner, the texture of the painting would suggest that there has been loss and flaking in the past which has been overpainted. The overpaint in this area is handled in a similar manner to the rest of the painting and it is possible that the artist reworked this area at a later date, although the repainting does lie on top of a lower varnish layer. The varnish has yellowed slightly with age but is even and glossy. There are several scuffs and scratches to the surface.
