To the left of the sitter is a tear in the original canvas which does not appear to be present in the lining canvas. The canvas is in plane with good tension and the paint layers are stable overall. There are small areas of retouching mainly located in the sitter’s face. The varnish has degraded, becoming yellowed and matte over time. There are several scuffs and scratches to the surface and a layer of dirt.
