DELANOIS under the shaped front seat rail96 x 72 x 61cmBorn in Savignies, Louis Delanois (1731-1792) was a menuisier working in the late Rococo style. Notably today, he is considered an active precursor of the Louis XVI style.Delanois moved to Paris in the 1750s to train as a joiner. He was awarded master qualification in 1761 and then set up his own business. In 1777 he moved away from the furniture trade into timber and property, however, this resulted in bankruptcy by the early 1790s.Amongst his most notable patrons were, Count of Artois, Madame du Barry, the King of Poland and the Duke of Dorset. Delanois was involved in the furnishing of the Palais Bourbon for the Prince de Conde from 1770 to 1777, and from 1768 to 1770 worked for Madame du Barry on her palaces at Louveciennes and Versailles. Today pieces created by Delanois can be found in public and private collections around the world, including the Louvre in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and Goodwood House, Chichester.See https://artist.christies.com/Louis-Delanois-19123.aspx
