Boiceau filed a patent for his stunning tapestry stitch known as point de Cornély in 1925. Soon thereafter at the Salons d'Automne of 1928 and 1929, Boiceau garnered important commissions from European and American patrons. Boiceau's Cornély stitch rugs are considered to be some of the most exquisite textile works created during the French Art Deco period. Popular themes in Boiceau's oeuvre included structures, maps, medallions, flowers and animals. Boiceau rugs have been collected over the years by art, design and fashion world luminaries such as Andy Warhol, Marion Lambert, Félix Marcilhac, Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé.The offered lot was ordered for the Champs Elysées residence of Mr Aubé in October 1929 and delivered in May 1931. It is registered under the number 1062 in the Ernest Boiceau registry.
