10th-7th century B.C. A leaf-shaped spearhead with raised midrib, square shoulders, collared neck and tapering, rectangular-section tang. Cf. Moorey, P. R. S., Catalogue of the ancient Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum, London, Oxford, 1971, no.90; cf. Vahdati, A.A., 'Marlik and Toul-E Talish: a dating problem' in Iranica Antiqua, vol.XLII, 2007, pp.125-138, fig.1, no.17, for similar. 315 grams, 35 cm (13 3/4 in.). Acquired before 1972. Formerly with a central London gallery. Property of a London gentleman. Bronze spearheads with a long hollow socket and rivet holes at the base are among the characteristic types of weapons in tomb 1 at Toul, similar to some specimens found in the Marlik area. In one type, the knob is at the middle of the socket, nearer to the square shoulders of the blade. This type has a foliate-triangular blade tapering towards the point, like our specimen and other specimens found in Ghalekuti. In our specimen, there are three knobs, making it a possibly heavier development of this typology. Moorey suggested a date of 9th-8th century B.C. for this typology.
