1st millennium B.C. A bronze horse harness pendant, formed as an openwork circle with the edge decorated with interlacing, bearing an eight-ray cross in the centre, the ends of each arm studded, and each of the arms forming the cross bearing a decoration with embossed chevrons; at the top of the circular element a bronze pendant fitted with a loop, through which passes a bronze chain made up of twenty doubled rings. 51 grams, 19 cm long (7 1/2 in.). Acquired 1980-2015. Ex Abelita family collection. Such horse fittings (phalerae) were worn hanging from the antilena or postilena of the horse. The chain was probably added in later times to transform it into a religious necklace.
