Late 1st century B.C. A terret ringposed of a sub-triangular attachment bar flanked by circular stops and tapering round-section body. 38.6 grams, 54 mm (2 1/8 in.). Found near Scarborough, Yorkshire, 1994. Lord McAlpine collection, 1994-2000. John Cummings Antiquities, UK. Dr D.G. collection, 2000-2019. Terret rings were used as rein guides on chariots or carts used during the Late Iron Age to Early Roman period. They were set in a line along the yoke and five terrets were usually used per chariot.
