15th-16th century A.D. A lead-alloy pilgrim badge showing Our Lady Mary of Willesden in a crescent moon or boat, holding a fleur-de-lys sceptre over her right shoulder whilst the infant Christ is cradled in her left arm, moon with beaded lower edge; pin absent. Cf. Spencer, B., Pilgrim Souvenirs And Secular Badges, Museum of London, 2010, item 155, for similar. 2.07 grams, 25 mm (1 in.). Acquired 1980s. Collection of M.Cummings, Lincolnshire, UK. Ex J.M. collection. Apanied by a copy of an old cataloguing slip. Examples of such badges have been unearthed in late medieval contexts in London, and appear to show devotion to a short-lived Marian cult centred on the capital. This badge most likely dates to 1500-1535 A.D. [No Reserve]
