A Japanese gunto katana
Edo period (blade)
With a signature on the nakago, "Yamashiro koku ju Fujiwara Nobu (?), (Fujiwara Nobu [?])" of Yamashiro region; blade with ko-midare hamon, itame hada, silver on copper habaki, nakago with two mounting holes; ray skin tsuka with floral menuki, matching bronze floral fuchi, kashira and tsuba; leather covered saya; kashira with silver Kageshiriawase Mitsuaoi mon.

Provenance: Estate, Jud Samon. Mr. Samon was a retired coordinator of International Faculty and Student Services at the University of Maryland at College Park.
Condition: Blade with edge chips, spots of corrosion and over polished; leather saya detached from inner wooden cover.
