Note: Sir Nicholas Goodison notes: This may (or may not) be a portrait of Mary Bussell, daughter of a picture dealer, who sat for a number of artists. She was the subject of several of Dobson's drawings (see Neville Jason and Lisa Thompson-Pharaoh, The Sculpture of Frank Dobson, Henry Moore Foundation, 1994, p.71-3). She was twenty years younger than Dobson. His love affair with her began in the mid-1920s, and they were married in 1931. Please refer to department for condition report
