Description Chippendale bonnet-top mahogany chest on chest, attributed to Massachusetts, 18th century, white pine secondary. Upper section with bonnet top having carved rosettes and three carved urn and flame finials above a central fan or shell-carved drawer, flanked by two small drawers over four rows of graduated dovetailed drawers, all with cockbeaded edges; brass escutcheons and oval brasses with bail handle pulls; drawers are flanked by carved fluted columns. Base with molded top edge above four graduated cockbeaded and dovetailed drawers, ogee base molding with a center carved drop, shaped bracket feet with spur returns. Top drawer with Sotheby's sold label from the Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Folk Paintings and Silver sale on 10/22/1988, Sale 5755, Lot# 410. Bottom of case inscribed with owner name "John McWhorter / Memphis 1988". Top measures: 49 3/4" H x 43 1/4" W x 21 5/8" D. Base measures: 37" H x 42" W x 22" D. 86 3/4" H. Circa 1765.品相报告: Condition Report Overall good condition with scattered wear, losses and repairs commensurate with age. One side of cornice with horizontal crack and possible small repair near outer corner. One side of top with vertical wood shrinkage. Base of right column with repair. Third drawer on base with horizontal wood shrinkage. Loss to rear corner of upper case at back edge. A few drawer sides have been built up due to wear from drawer supports.
