Biography: Born in Calabria, Italy, Nicola Simbari moved with his family to Rome at a young age, his father working as an architect for the Vatican. Inspired by Renaissance masterpieces in Rome, he enrolled at the Academia dell Bell Arti, and opened his own studio at the age of 22. He gained success at a young age, having one-man shows in Europe and painting the murals for the Italian Pavilion at the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels. He is known for his brightly colored, semi-abstract impressionist works of the Mediterranean and contemporary European lifestyle, layered richly with a palette knife.
