Description Langdon Smith (California/Massachusetts, 1870-1959) oil on canvasboard painting of a tree growing out of a rocky incline before a forested Northern California mountain landscape. Sunlight illuminates a distant mountain range behind which a blue-green sky is revealed. Initialed LS in lower-right corner. Pencil inscription en verso reads "North Yuba Cal. / Sierra County." Verso has two estate stamps both reading "Painted by / Langdon Smith 1870-1959 / Authenticated by Clark C. Brown / Executor of Langdon Smith Estate." Back of frame is inscribed "L. Smith," in pen. Verso is inscribed with old inventory number. Sticker reading "Langdon Smith / (1870-1859) / "Tree" / Oil on board" affixed to verso, along with one old inventory sticker and one old price sticker. Back of frame has sticker of Kerwin Galleries, Burlingame, California, and handwritten sticker reading "K G Frame." Housed in a molded giltwood frame with linen fillet. Sight: 13 1/4" H x 9" W.
