Two-layered, oval agate intaglio with an engraving of the Muse Terpsichore in the upper black layer. The lower white layer still visible between the sides of the gold setting and the darker layer. Terpsichore with a wreath in her hair striding to the left, a lyre and plectrum in her hands. Her mantle flowing down from her shoulders. The intaglio set in a gold frame with a pronounced curve and mounted on an oval gold base. The edges of the base bent slightly upwards around the frame. The double fluted strap handle at the upper end embellished with four globules at the front of the lower edge. The intaglio with high-quality engraving in an elegant, antique gold setting. Dimensions of the intaglio approx. 24 x 15 mm. Height of the jewellery including the setting 37 mm, width 21 mm. Weight 9.40 g. Provenance: From a South German private collection, acquired from an Austrian art dealer at an art fair in 2010.
