In my opinion, this fancy Rococo mold is the most beautiful of all of the Limoges chargers. This example is yet another uniquely beautiful piece. The high points of the heavily embossed Rococo border are finished in rich Roman gold. Sponged gold highlightsplete the dramatic display. The effect is simply stunning! The tab handles are also decorated in gorgeous Roman gold to create a similar effect. The central cartouche measures 7 inches in diameter and is bordered with delicate raised gold paste. Ladies in ornate, Victorian style dresses are being groomed for a special occasion. The central cartouche has been signed by the artist as photographed. This charger/plaque measures 15 ¼ inches across the handles, 12 inches from top to bottom, and 1 ½ inches deep. The Vultury Freres Limoges France underglaze factory mark 1 in green dates the piece from 1887- 1904. A Lewis Straus & Sons overglaze exporting mark in blue used from the 1890s to the mid 1920s also appears on this piece. The Lewis Strauspany exported porcelain from Austria and Limoges to their New York basedpany and this mark is found as an overglaze mark on factory decorated items. Pieces with the Straus marks are always professionally decorated. There are no chips, cracks, crazing or damage of any kind to this remarkable charger/plaque. The back has been pierced for hanging. Please enlarge the photographs to examine the minimal wear to the gold from age and use. This is a rare and unique blank that is not often available for purchase.
