At the height of the arts and crafts movement, around the year 1905, many Ohio Pottery’s were producing architectural shapes in the matt green colored glaze. Although, at the time, considered not as attractive as the classic Grueby glaze, the Weller pottery produced many objects of very closeparison. As amazing as the Grueby pottery pieces can be, I have sold a number of Weller matt examples that I would consider just as nice at a fraction of the cost. This particular candlestick has an excellent glaze with areas of dripping thick application. I cannot fully describe the beauty of this item without referring to the numerous pictures included with this listing. The candlestick measures 6” tall with a base a hair over 4” diameter. Although unmarked, the distinguishing factor to identify this piece as a Weller product is the blue tinted bottom as pictured. After thorough inspection and cleaning I can verify this item has no damage or repairs. I will mention, as pictured, there is a glaze skip on the base and a very tiny skip on the top rim. Glaze skips are fairlymon on these early pieces. Also when inspecting this item, I can hear a tiny flake of loose fired clay on the inside of the base. Again, I have had several early pottery pieces with this occurrence. I feel these factors do not detract from the actual beauty of this candle holder. Please enjoy the pictures apanying this item.
