韦陀头戴凤盔，身披铠甲，外裹锦袍，腰系扎带，足踏战靴，左手握金刚杵，杵于地上。衣袍、帔帛飘扬飞动，身躯挺胸收腹，厚实壮硕，姿态雄健有力，尽现刚毅力量。其开相天庭饱满，鼻梁挺直，侧首远眺，含威不露。韦陀是佛的护法神，据说，在释迦佛入涅时，邪魔把佛的遗骨抢走，韦陀及时追赶，奋力夺回。因此佛教便把他作为驱除邪魔，保护佛法的天神。从宋代开始，中国寺庙中供奉韦陀，称为韦陀菩萨，常站在弥勒佛像背后，面向大雄宝殿，护持佛法，护助出家人。
