A large Japanese gilt lacquered ewer, dating from the Edo period (1603-1867). A large round bucket shaped basin with flat top that extends a small amount past the sides. A thick, wide spout and sturdy handle, with three rounded feet at the base to lift off the surface. A design throughout of scrolling flowers and leaves. Speckled brown lacquer on inside of ewer.
