Little is known about his childhood or education; however, by 1899, he was already in China, where he allegedly remained until his death, engaging in a fur trading business in the treaty port of Tianjin. By 1912, and probably earlier, Crofts begun sourcing artefacts for various London dealers including S.M. Franck & Co, which supplied Chinese antiques to both retail dealers and leading institutions, such as the Victoria and Albert Museum. During the first quarter of the 20th century, the Royal Ontario Museum acquired over 6000 objects from Croft through Charles Trick Currelly (1876-1957), its founding director.is_parse: 20230413image: yuzhan_bonhams_item.jpgsold_price_type: £
