A CHINESE CELADON-GLAZED 'LOTUS' BOWL Southern Song - Yuan Dynasty, 12th - 13th Century 南宋至元 十二至十三世紀 青釉暗刻蓮紋盌 The rounded sides rising from a short foot, incised to the centre with three freely-drawn lotus flowers, decorated in a celadon glaze falling short of the foot to reveal the grey stoneware body beneath, 16.8cm diameter - PROVENANCE: Property of a French Private Collection formed in Hong Kong during the 1960’s-1980’s 來源:法國私人收藏,1960-1980年代在香港組成 Note: This bowl is likely from a kiln in Fujian province. During the 12th and 13th centuries, ceramic production was concentrated in the southeastern provinces of Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi, with the former becoming a major export region for ceramics during this time. Celadon bowls such as the present lot, decorated with incised decorations to the interior and sometimes the exterior walls, are typical of wares produced specifically for overseas export. A large cache of these wares were discovered in the Jepara shipwreck, which was discovered just north of the central Javan coast. The salvage team eventually uncovered thousands of ceramic pieces, as well as coins dating to the reign of Emperor Gaozong, the tenth emperor of the Song dynasty and first of the Southern Song.品相报告: A firing flaw to the rim and an area below it. Surface wear commensurate with age, with glaze wear and some nibbles around the edges of the foot. The inside of the foot marked with an inscription that reads 'LOAN 98-33'.
