此为出使国外的许珏复叔嘉札，一是回复为两人共同好友“纶兄”撰传志之事，因公私繁忙，请推迟至回国途中在船上完成。其次谈及国内“竞谈新政”的情况，表示担忧。许珏光绪三十二年回国后上疏反对君主立宪，被目为“疯狂”。 许珏（1843-1916），字静山，无锡人。光绪举人，从薛福成使英，继充驻美参赞，累官道员，工制峯文，尝教读丁文诚诸子。辛亥革命后隐居不出。其子为刊行《复庵遗集》二十四卷。与许珏为同乡，余不详。
