PROVENANCE:
The
painting
is
a
present
from
Zhang
Daqian
to
Mr.
Hui
Yihan
in
late
70s.
Mr.
Hui
worked
as
a
director
at
Radio
Taiwan
International
and
he
often
organized
many
Beijing
Opera
performances.
Being
a
big
fan
of
Beijing
Opera,
Zhang
Daqian
gradually
became
friends
with
Mr.
Hui.
It
was
not
until
twenty
years
the
descendants
of
Mr.
Hui
brought
the
painting
to
the
United
States
and
they
always
kept
it
in
the
family.
This
is
the
first
time
the
painting
has
been
offered
to
the
public.
Mr.
Hui
is
a
descendant
of
Qing
manju.
His
grandfather
was
a
minister
of
Internal
Affairs
in
Qing
dynasty.
His
father
Hui
Xiaotong
(1902-1979)
was
a
famous
painter.
The
legendary
consort
Zhen
was
Mr.
Hui’s
aunt.
The
painting
is
inscribed
by
Xiao
Ping,
a
well-known
painter
and
connoisseur
of
Chinese
painting.
