The bowl is decorated to the exterior with four scenes from the Romance of the Western Chamber, Xixiangji, surrounded by cloud scrolls, all below a diaper band enclosing flower heads. The interior is decorated with a roundel with boys at play, and the flattened everted rim is decorated with a wan-symbol band.
Catalogue notes: Compare a 'klapmuts' bowl in the Gemeentemuseum, Den Haag, and one sold at Christie's Amsterdam, 3-4 April 2012, lot 198, both also decorated with scenes from the Romance of the Western Chamber.
Condition: There is a crack to the rim (approx. 10 cm. long), with a small associated loss.
There are some small scattered burst glaze bubbles.

Period: Kangxi six-character mark in underglaze blue within a double circle and of the period (1662-1722)
