A FIVE-COLOR OVERLAY ‘FISH, DUCK & CRAB’ GLASS SNUFF BOTTLETransparent, bubble-suffused glass with carved and incised lemon-yellow, light ruby-red, emerald-green, sapphire- blue and black overlay in high relief, nicely polished, with few scattered air bubbles of various sizes. China, 1780-1860Carved as a single overlay with a continuous design of three fish, a crab, a duck (note the red beak) and various lotus plants, all stemming from a large lotus leaf forming the bottom of the bottle. The different colors on multi-colored overlay bottles can vary from two to as many as ten, although between two and five is the norm. Arguably five is the rarest within this norm.
