A DOUCAI "CHRYSANTHEMUM" WINE CUP, China, Chenghua six-character mark, possibly Kangxi period, 18th ct., of deep "U"-shape, the steep sides rising from a short tapered foot, delicately painted around the exterior with four alternating red- and blue-petalled chrysanthemum foliate sprays, apocryphal mark of Chenghua - Provenance: Property from an old Paris private collection, according to the familiy in their possesion since the 1970s - A Chenghua prototype of the same form and motif, recovered from the Chenghua stratum of the Ming imperial kilns at Jingdezhen is illustrated in Imperial Porcelain, Recent Discoveries of Jingdezhen Ware, Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, 1995, cat. no. 163 - Restored breaks
