Claude Levy: Large Plate of Abstract Archer. Gray stoneware charger decorated under a clear glaze in colors; incised signature inside foot-rim. Ashley-Page Collection label and SPB Auction label on reverse. France, circa 1930's. NOTE: Levy was one of the principal designers at Longwy for Primavera and also worked for Sevres. His last exhibition in New York was during the 1939 World's Fair. Together with Emil Decoeur, Raul Lachenal and Jean Mayodon, Levy was known as one of the "gres potters" a group who used the earthy gray pottery and stoneware of the Korean and Japanese Kyoto ceramists. Good condition. Diameter 17 inches (43.2 cm.). Provenance: Sotheby Parke Bernet, NY, circa 1980's.
