Eight Medicine Buddhas. Tibet. Old thanka painting. Canvas, 59 x 43.5 cm. Mounted in old brocade frame, 121 x 77 cm. From the estate of a jeweler family from the Osnabrueck area; purchased in Asia between 1960 and 1990. The blue Bhaisajyaguru seated in dhyana-asana on a disc of a moon, a lotus and a throne pedestal in the center of the painting. His hands showing the varada and the dhyana mudra and holding a steam of the Myrobalan and a cup with healing nectar. Wearing a long, three-part robe of a monk. He is surrounded by his six brothers: Top left Supari Kiritita Nama Sri Raja, top right Svaraghosa Raja, mid left Suvarna Bhadra Vimala, mid right Asokottama Shri, bottom left Dharmakirti Sagara Ghosa and bottom center Abhijna Raja.
