The group is cast with a Buddha as the main figure seated in padmasana on a raised lotus base, the right hand is held in abhayamudra and left resting on the left knee. The head is framed by a separate aureole decorated with an openwork foliate design. The Buddha is accompanied with four separate standing Bodhisattvas, two with the hands holding a kamandalu ('holy water' bottle) and a willow branch and flower, and two with their hands in abhayamudra and varadamudra and backed by an openwork aureole. All the figures are supported on a rectangular four-legged stand.Condition: There is a fine crack to the stand and to where the lotus base meets the stand, and a very short crack to the upper edge of the detachable mandorla.When inset, the mandorla leans to the front.Wear to the gilding, surface wear and small dents, and small areas of verdigris consistent with age.Origin: ChinaPeriod: Tang dynasty (618-907)Sizes: 23.50 cm.
