|此件玉韘采用典型的汉代以前新疆和阗所产的青绿色玉制成，因此种玉材多流行于战国器物，今人将此类玉材俗称为“战国青”。其玉质细腻，边缘有褐色沁，沁斑入骨自然，局部残留朱砂。玉韘保持了早期实用韘的形态，中部留有穿孔，一面内凹，以适应手指，一边出一直钩榫用以勾拉弓弦，棱角分明，琢工精细。目前已知的早期玉韘为商代作品，至战国晚期后失去实用性，逐步发展为鸡心佩。
