John Gerrard, LondonThe associated case with flat topped hood with overhanging cornice on brass-mounted Doric columns, the long trunk door centred by a lenticle and decorated with pheasants and other birds in a landscape, the base with further buildings, the sides with gilt flowers, all within gilt borders on a tortoiseshell effect ground, the 12 inch square brass dial with engraved wheatear border framing the Indian mask spandrels, Roman and Arabic chapter ring with half-quarter marks, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds dial and chamfered date aperture unusually with pin-set date, the movement united by five knopped and ringed pillars, with trains of five wheels, the going with anchor escapement, the strike with outside countwheel, 2.16m (7ft 1ins) high
